What a weekend!, sun, beer and plenty of trout caught!
A few North West Nomad Members headed up to Wild Rose Caravan park to stay, Friday and Saturday night. With a weekend of BBQs, a few drinks, good mates and of course fishing. Three days at the beautiful Bessy Beck to be precise.
Arriving on Friday around midday after a long drive and some lunch, we decided to hit the trout at Bessy Beck with a few of our flies.
Friday was a perfect day weather wise for catching a few fish, Myself, Jim and Chairman Steve, purchased a 4 hour ticket. With trout on the rise around midday, the prospects looked excellent. Between three of us we managed 14 trout to our nets, which isnt bad going!
Friday afternoon was nicely wrapped up with a few beers at Wild Rose onsite restaurant and pub, including a rather filling and appropriate fish and chip meal!
After we eaten, we were all ready for a good few beers and a sleep, which would start off our weekend away nicely.
Arising around 5:30am, followed by an excellent breakfast prepared by the Nomad Chairman and good friend Steven Moffat. Full and ready to take on our second day fly fishing up at Bessy Beck. Arriving at the fishery car park for around 7:20am, although not officially open until 8am, we couldn't sleep as the big bows and blues were awaiting our flies!
Our morning session, again for four hours, proved very fruitful indeed. Around 20 fish to our nets, with some lumps amongst them. Falling to a range of methods, although a capture was almost garenteed if fished within the top few inches of water. Dries, nymphs, Crunchers & the imitative black and green blob!
Feeling greatly satisfied with our second session of the weekend, we headed back to base camp, for a BBQ and a few drinks or two.....
The Sun came out around 1pm and continued to shine, warm and brightly until 10pm, we enjoyed the sun and talked about the days fishing. Excited for, unfortunately, our last session of the weekend.
Again waking at silly o'clock, we all decided to hit Bessy Beck for the last and final time of our brilliant weekend away.....
Landing some cracking fish over our last day, we decided to reluctantly head home after the bright sunny conditions knocked the fish down.
On the sunday, other nomads were invited up to fish alongside the trio of nomads that were away on a fishing holiday. With Secretary and other Nomads joining us on the day, this made our weekend, so thanks for those that chose to fish Bessy Beck. What an incredible little venue, sure to get a return visit from the entire nomad bunch!
This weekends fishing break, made me thankful for the true friends i have made within the nomads...
ONCE A NOMAD, ALWAYS A NOMAD!
Please keep your eye on our website as the next sessions will soon be available on there fellow nomad members and friends....

What a day! - all nomads landed trout.
The best boat of the day, landed 37 fish! Both Oliver Avis & Nathan Jones caught trout on various patterns, damsels, blobs, boobies and viva cormorants.
Both Oliver Avis and myself throughly enjoyed the day, as can be seen above. The sun was shining, and the fish were biting, makes the day being in good company aswell. Cheers oliver for a top day mate, and your driving skills haven't been lost, during your lack of fly fishing over the previous months!
Precision boat driving skills, superb fellow nomad!
These top quality damsels tied by Phil Green @ Fly's4you served me well, with over 7 fish taken to them, these flies look truely amazing ithe water, especially with the sun being present. The trout couldnt help but see these patterns! - they absolutely slammed into the black one you can see in the photo. They just couldnt get enough of them.......
Six Nomads made it out for this session, although a little dissapointed with the numbers, this is expected in regards to the length of the day, for example i was up around 4:30am and only got home at 8:45pm, but it was worth every minute of the drive there and back!
Llyn Brenig is just one of those venues that i could fish over and over again, superb facilities, good boats, and good engines (we didnt personally have any problems with them).
Heres a snap shot of us Nomads before we set off for the day....
From left to right,
Paul Johnson, Nathan Jones, Stephen Gildart, Oliver Avis, John Burrow & Mark Clayton.

All Nomads had a brilliant day, and those that attended on the day, have sworn to return soon, to fish this awesome water....

Curleys trout fishery 24/5/15
Brief but puts across our thoughts on today's session...
Written by Oliver Avis
"Great turnout from the NW Nomad members today at Curleys fishery especially considering the poor start to the day in terms of the weather! Fishing was good, not easy but rewarding and the fish that I caught battled like fury which every other nomad member also experienced, as there was fish caught all over the place. With quite a few fish showing the majority of us were fishing in the top 2ft of water where most of the fish were caught to a variety of flies from lures to dries. All in all a very enjoyable session and a real eye opener from a much improved fishery! I will be back!"
As will be all, great to get back on our local water, which is well on its way to becoming, once again, a well run and well stocked fishery!
